It’s staggering to think that we can put a man on the moon, but we haven’t found a solution to the 1 billion people without access to clean water.
The human race, who has scaled the greatest heights, explored the deepest oceans, still has millions of people who have to walk miles looking for something to drink!
2 million deaths each year occur from drinking contaminated water. The problem here is that people spend an average of 5 hours a day walking to collect water. That's around 40 billion hours a year.
Imagine what your day would be like if you spent 5 hours walking to your local shop for a drink. Wouldn't get much done would you? It's the same in developing countries. Kids don't go to school and adults can't look after their crops or families
The PlayPump®Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest ones. Like the amazing PlayPump® water systems you help fund every time you buy a bottle of One Water.
The PlayPump® uses a specially crafted children’s roundabout to pump water from deep underground. So, as children spin on the roundabout, fresh, clean water is pumped from a borehole into a storage tank for use by the entire community.
It’s a simple idea but one that is changing the lives of thousands of African people. Now, instead of walking for hours to collect water, children can go to school and the entire community benefits from access to fresh drinking water.
A PlayPump® provides much more than clean water. It provides a community with a sustainable resource that saves time and energy and facilitates education, hygiene and health. Plus, excess water can be used to irrigate vegetable gardens, giving communities the opportunity to grow and sell their own crops.
We knew when we saw a PlayPump® in action that we were looking at a way to change the world. That’s why every single penny of the profits from One Water goes towards the installation of these fantastic systems.
How can we build more PlayPumps in Africa?
On 26th February 2010 all GroupM agencies in Australia are uniting as one to take part in a fundraising walkathon.
Staff from several media agencies will be taking to the streets in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to raise funds for One Water.
Your donation will bring clean water to people living in extreme poverty in developing countries. Please sponsor us now to help us make a difference.
Simply http://www.onedifference.org/aus/powerofone/give/salazar-catalina and your contribution will help us build more PlayPumps in Africa.
This cause moves me because I can't imagine how I would live without any water at home....
